The Tamil Nadu state government has launched the Tamil Nadu Pink Auto Scheme 2025. To allow the female citizens of Tamil Nadu State to become financially independent the Tamil Nadu state government has launched the Pink Auto Scheme 2025. To successfully launch this scheme in the state, the Tamil Nadu state government has issued significant amendments in the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. Under the first face of the scheme, the Tamil Nadu state government distributed a total of 250 pink auto rickshaws to the female citizens living in Chennai. All the female citizens who clear the eligibility criteria are requested to visit the official website and fill out the application form before the last date 6th April 2025.

Pink Rickshaw Rules (Amendment)
- A new clause has been added to Rule 3 that defines a โPink Autoโ. It states:
โPink autoโ means the auto rickshaws that are owned and driven by women drivers only under the pink auto scheme of the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department.
- A new proviso has been inserted in Rule 37 to ensure uniformity for women driving pink autos:
โProvided that the women driving pink auto shall be in pink colour uniform.โ
- The amended rules include a new provision under Rule 310-A, which mandates the installation of safety features in Pink Autos:
โThe pink auto shall be fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) / Vehicle Location Tracking Device and connected to the police helpline to ensure rapid response during emergencies.โ This rule will significantly enhance the safety and security of both the drivers and passengers.
- A new rule (Rule 364-B) has been added, specifying the requirement for the distinct appearance of Pink Autos:
โEvery Pink auto covered by contract carriage permit shall be painted fully in โPink Colourโ.โ This rule ensures that all the vehicles under the scheme are clearly recognizable and maintain their consistency in visual identity.
- Under Rule 208, a new proviso has been added regarding the transfer of permits:
โProvided that the permit for pink auto shall not be transferred for, at least five years from the date of issue of permit.โ This provision ensures the stability and sustainability of the scheme by preventing immediate transfers.
