The Government of India launched the PM Shri Scheme. To set up a school for all the financially unstable students in India the Government of India launched the PM Shri Scheme (Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India) 2024. The main aim of launching the PM Shri Scheme is to nurture students to become engaged, productive, and contributing citizens for building an equitable, inclusive, and plural society as envisaged by the National Education Policy 2020. According to the Government of India, 20 lakh students are set to become the direct beneficiaries under the PM Shri scheme.

The Pradhan Mantri PM ScHools for Rising India is the full form of the PM Shri scheme. The Honorable Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi has launched the scheme to set up various schools in India according to the latest technology and education. This initiative is intended to develop more than 14500 PM SHRI Schools managed by Central Government/State/UT Government/local bodies including KVS and NVS. With the help of this scheme, the Government of India will set up a place where students can get education and knowledge about the latest technology and extracurricular activities.

Selection Process Under PM Shri Scheme

  • The schools must be registered as elementary schools for classes 1st to 8th in any state.
  • The schools must be managed by center/state/UT Governments/local self-governments having UDjSE+ code.
  • The selection of schools under the scheme will be made through challenge Mode wherein schools will compete for support to become exemplary schools
  • Selection will be done through a three-stage process with definite timelines.

Criteria for Shortlisting Under PM Shri Stage 2

  • The school should have its pucca building in good condition.
  • The school must have a barrier-free access ramp.
  • The school must be safety-oriented.
  • The enrolment of students at Elementary (Class 1-5/1-8) Ievel and Senior Secondary (Class 6-12/ 6-10/ย  l-10/ 1-12) levels must be more than the state average enrolment, for the category.
  • The school should have at least one separate toilet each for boys & girls.
  • The school must have a potable drinking water facility.
  • The school must have a separate hand-washing facility,
  • All teachers should have Photo lD Cards as per extant guidelines.
  • Electricity supply should be in working condition.
  • School should have Library/library corner facilities/ Sports equipment.

Criteria for Shortlisting Under PM Shri Stage 3

  • Short-listed Schools of stage 1 shall apply on the PM SHRI School Selection Portal in the stipulated time frame.
  • Schools in Urban areas need to score a minimum 7Oo/o, whereas Schools in Rural areas need to score a minimum of 60%, to be selected as Pl'”l SHRI Schools.
  • States/UTs/KVS/NVS shall verify the claims reported by Schools through physical inspection and recommend the list of schools to the Ministry accordingly.
