The scheme was approved by the state cabinet of Andhra Pradesh after a request from the State Health Department. An announcement for the scheme was made by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh state on 6th May 2025. The scheme is fully funded by the Andhra Pradesh State government to provide basic essential items to newborn babies and mothers in the state.

The main objective of launching the Baby Kit scheme is to allow newborn babies to get essential items along with various other benefits. Each kid that will be given to the selected citizens under this scheme includes 11 essential items that are worth INR 1140. These include a baby bed with mosquito net, waterproof cot sheet, baby dress, washable nappies, towel, baby powder, shampoo, oil, soap with box, and a baby rattle toy. With the help of these essential items, the Andhra Pradesh State government will maintain the hygiene and health of the newborn baby a especially during the delicate period right after their birth.
